Introducing the 10-omat!
The 10-omat can be thought of as a decimal clock which provides a visual representation of the numbers from 0 to 99. It can also be used as a mechanical calculator.
Teachers can use the display model to help students to understand the counting and place value system. When the ‘ones’ hand is moved clockwise or counterclockwise over 9, the ‘tens’ hand jumps ahead of back accordingly, making a sound to emphasize the importance and ‘magic’ of 10.
